Robert Montague
Robert joined the board of Axis in December 2003 when the Group was formed and listed on AIM. He is responsible for the overall management, drive, strategic direction and growth of the group.
Robert has over 30 years experience in the transport industry. After spending 5 years with Esso, he joined his family’s transportation business, and seeing the growth opportunities in containerisation and logistics, left in 1978 to start and build Tiphook plc which was the World’s second largest marine container leasing company and Europe’s largest trailer rental business.
In September 1995 Robert established Axis to take advantage of the growing market for swapbodies as an alternative to road transport in Central Europe and has overseen Axis’s growth to date in truck and road trailer contract hire.
James Coulson
James joined Axis Intermodal as a consultant in September 2007 to assist the with the setting up of a ‘specials’ marine container leasing division to market the patented SeaCell2 cellular palletwide container, flatracks, reefer and other special containers.
James has over 40 year experience in shipping and capital goods marketing with The Clan Line, Hymac, Jones Cranes and Sea Containers/GE Seaco. At Sea Containers/GE Seaco James was responsible for their specialised container fleet. James retired in 2006.
John Evans
During the 1970s and 1980s John Evans managed UK container depots ‘Geoffrey Reyner Limited’ and ‘Northern Containers Limited’. During this time John was also Chairman of the UK’s Container Repair Association.
In 1986 John started John Evans International Limted (JEIL) offering software systems to the container industry. To date, JEIL has installed systems in over 32 countries in every continent.
In 1991 John, together with Martin Clive-Smith formed ‘Container Group Technology (CGT) Limited to offer innovative solutions to container industry problems. John and Martin have co-operated on a number of projects and the Seacell container is the fruit of that co-operation.
In 1996 an agreement was reached between CGT and Sea Containers Limited (subsequently GE Seaco) that gave Sea Containers exclusive marketing rights to the SeaCell patented design, and over 50,000 TEU of SeaCells were built. In 2007 the agreement was amended and GE Seaco’s exclusivity was removed.
John has recently been engaged by SeaAxis to advise on the creation of a brand new leasing fleet of SeaCells containers to be based on CGT’s very latest 40ft and 45ft Seacell designs that SeaAxis will market under the SeaCell2 brand.
